Hello all,

I'm trying to upgrade my older comp's RAM. The motherboard is an EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI (132-CK-NF79-TR). Currently it has the following:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz
RAM: 4x1GB Corsair 1333Mhz
Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 650
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit

I'm currently thinking of updating the RAM to 8GB, but am freaked out from research. I'm not sure what Mhz to look for, what voltage to look for, and what configuration (2x4GB or 4x2GB) is compatible with this motherboard as I've seen multiple threads in different websites saying certain things are incompatible.

Can anyone help me figure out exactly what type and what configuration of RAM I can buy to upgrade to 8GB?

Thanks =)

According to your motherboard manual...
System memory:
Supports dual channel DDR3 800/1066/1333, and up to 2000 MHz SLIReady Memory. Supports up to 8 GBs DDR3 memory.
You can populate the memory slots in any combination you choose. Just be sure to buy a matched set of memory.

I did check the manual, however after researching I found threads of other people who have had trouble with the black and grey slots and 2000 mhz RAM. Would 2x4gb be better than 4x2gb, or will it make much of a difference?

I'll simplify. Will my motherboard with the v6.0 BIOS (original) support this set?

Additionally, will it be better if I get a set of 4x2gb sticks since my board has 4 slots.

Remembering back to my Asus P5NE-SLI board I had from that same generation, it always had trouble when I tried to populate all 4 slots with the fastest memory. Not saying you will have the same problem, just thought I'd pass that on.

Although I'm a little confused by the statement on page 10 of the MB manual: "Your new motherboard has four 240-pin slots for DDR3 memory. These slots support 256 Mb, 512 Mb and 1 Gb DDR3 technologies for x8 and x16 devices. " Yet the specs seem to state that the board can accept up to 8 GB of RAM.
