My B-day is approaching and I'm looking for the best upgrade bang per buck. My build is old and cheap but she's done me well.

Seeing as how the mobo/cpu are my oldest parts of the build, I'm looking for some upgrade suggestions @ $150-$200. Not really interested in OCing. I also fine with going Intel if need be.

Ideally I'd like to be able to run modern games on high-ish settings with steady 30-60 fps...I thought that'd have been possible when I upgraded to my GTX 660 but it hasn't panned out as well as I'd hoped.

Current Build:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black 3.2GHz AM3 125W HDZ955FBGIBOX
MB: MSI 760GM-P34 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G + SB710 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
RAM: HyperX 4GBx2 (8GB total) DDR3 1600
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660
SDD: OCZ Vertex 3 90GB 2.5"
HDD: Seagate Barracuda LP 1TB 5900 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular High Performance Power Supply

I would say upgrade your CPU + motherboard to haswell.

If you go Skylake you may need to buy new RAM even though it is said 1.5V DDR3 works with Skylake. Also motherboard and CPU are more expensive so it may not fit your budget.

This will give you a solid performance boost:

After that you should consider upgrading your GPU to a GTX 970 or R9 390.
