Hello. I know this is a very old workstation processor, and not actually intended for gaming - but I recently came across a relatively cheap setup that had two of these running with windows 7 home. So 16 cores total (8 per) and 8 gigs of RAM. From what I've been able to research, it seems this processor is somewhat comparable to phenom ii x4 910 and i7 920 in terms of performance.

Would this be able to handle newer games at *playable* fps, on lower resolution? (900p) In no way is it a requirement for things to be maxed out. Just looking for a starter computer for a friend, and I figure I could pick this up for cheap and throw in a new card for him after the fact.

I did see a video of someone playing gta 5 with this processor, but honestly it was in russian so I really have no idea if the video was valid or not.

I also have another question. This is the motherboard in the computer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131378 the person says it currently has a Nvidia 8400 gs in it (Which I would be replacing) and as far as I know, that's a pcie-x16 slot card but this board doesn't look like it actually has a x16 slot.. Can anyone confirm if this board does in fact have room for graphics card upgrades? According to its specs listing, it says it does in fact have an x16 slot but they look like standard pci slots, without the card latch. Would not having that latch create a problem?

On top of that, it looks like there's a ram slot right next to the thing that "looks" like it could be a graphics card slot. Would putting a newer card potentially hit that? Considering most new cards have heatpipes etc hanging down.

I've already emailed the person these questions, but just figured I'd get some input in the mean time. Thanks.

Solution
actually according to asus it has 2 x 8 pci-e and one x16 pci-e

and no latch should be ok with a smaller card

and just use the ram slots not next to the gpu slot since there 6 ram slots shouldnt be an issue

That's what I originally though too, but it actually lists there is a pciex16 2.0 right above that. I didn't see that the first time around. The only concern i have with that is it doesn't look like it actually has a latch intended for graphics cards, and two: it looks like it's right next to a ram slot. It almost looks like a newer card with heatpipes hanging down would be obstructed by it

There's a picture of the inside of the case, though it's a very small picture that doesn't give a lot of detail.
