Is 2gb Vram Enough For 1080p Gaming

I was thinking about getting a GTX 950 because it preforms surprisingly well for the price and I want the card to be future proofed so the only issue I think is that it only has 2gb Vram would that be enough for 2-3 years from now for games strictly on 1080p? if 2gb is not an issue I would most likely just a 960 instead of a 950

Thanks for the help =)

A 600W PSU is plenty to power an R9 290. You have a large headway before even getting close to that point. I assure you 600W can power that card with ease.

While the 950 is a great card, I would not suggest buying to last 2-3 years. You could buy a second one later to SLI them for boosted performance.

I would suggest you look at the R9 280x over the GTX 960. It should future proof you about that long and stay within your budget (assuming ~$200 USD).

Lets take the TDP of the R9 290: 275W
Lets take the TDP of a FX-8350/i7-4790K: 125W/88W
Lets take the TDP of a High end Mobo: ~80W
Assuming 1x HDD 1x SSD + RAM: 50W is plenty

At the most we are at 530W. A decent 70W margin is perfect for his build and prevents him from having to purchase another PSU. The only possible issue would be the current provided through the rails against the power draw from the gpu itself.

I had 2x R9 270 cards in crossfire, with 2gb. I saw issues at 1080p due to the "low" vram, so... But if you only have 1 950 gtx it's probably not going to matter, since it can never go that high in graphics anyway.

I agree.
This will all depend on the model PSU the OP currently is using. I simply wanted to clarify to anyone else who may be reading this that 600W is enough with a quality PSU.

290 doesn't actually use THAT much power imho. I tried crossfire 290 with 390, and testet the max input of wattage. It came up to 580 watts in crossfire, with a G3258 @4.4 ghz. Not bad honestly. Single card is around 370-380 watts input.
