Is there any possible upgrades i could make without spending anymore money?

I'm building my own gaming pc at christmas and im looking to see if theres anything i have picked that could be upgraded

My specs so far are:
GPU - GTX 970
Processor - Intel core i5-4690k 3.5GHz
Motherboard - MSI Z97 - G45
RAM - 2x4gb 8gb HyperX Fury
Cooling fan - Cooler Master hyper 212 Evo
SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 250gb
Harddrive - Western Digital blue 1tb
Case - NZXT S340
PSU - seasonic s12ii - 620w

if you show the prices you will be paying for maybe someone can find a better deal.

Otherwise you can alway get a r9 290x for less than the gtx 970. Performs about the same. More power hungry.

Don't buy overclocking equipment and invest extra cash in a better GPU it will give you much more performance than overclocking your CPU.

Don't go for a Z motherboard, don't go for a K CPU and don't buy an aftermarket cooler. This should give you almost 100 $ dollar for a better GPU.

in theory, an AMD R9 390x is more powerful for the same price of a 970, but it consumes more power and runs hotter.

biggest issue is the fact that prices will change a lot in the next few months with the holidays coming. it is good to have an idea where to start but until you are actually ready to buy, it is kind of useless to price shop now.

soe good general ideas here though such as avoiding the oc cpu and board/cooling. that extra money into the gpu will offer greater performance gains with less issues than come with overclocking.

your thoughts are in the right place but wait until buying day to select final parts. you just never know what kind of holiday sales will show up. new intel cpu's are out with more coming, will this lower the older i5 prices a bunch? stay tuned.....

If you were to be buying today, I think your plan would be good.
I would not change a thing.
But... in three months, prices and products will change.

That said, Skylake will become more available.
I would expect that you could buy a i5-6600K, a Z170 motherboard and DDR4 ram for not much more.
Today, that is about $150 more, but that premium will drop.
It is the Z170 chipset that is important.
It has more lanes that can support vastly faster ssd types of drives. Intel Xpoint drives should launch next year.
