i see that one is the most commonly used so i was just wondering if there was anything better i don't really want to use liquid because im afraid of it leaking and destroying the computer

I disagree strongly with why_wolf. The i7-5820K is a 140W CPU at stock and is closer to 200W when overclocked That air cooler is not stout enough for that (although it is an excellent budget cooler). When we tested that chip http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-core-i7-5960x-haswell-e-cpu,3918-3.html the Noctua NH D15 was used. It is one of the best 'big air' coolers out there. I use the very similar NH D15S.

Do you need WiFi on board?

@floppyedonkey, most reviews place the NH D15 slightly above the Phanteks (the higher fin density could contribute)

It is literally as ugly as sh*t though (bad pun intended)

I'd recommend the Cryorig R1 Ultimate, because it cools slightly better than either of the other coolers, and doesn't look too bad. It is a bit noisier though.

As far as the motherboard is concerned, I suggest that you read this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8735/holiday-guides-2014-x99-motherboards It describes and reviews several boards. You can see that features they have and what means the most to you.

I happen to like ASRock at most places in the market because of their great price/performance. (cheaper than better, better than cheap), so I'd start with the ASRock X99 Extreme6/ac at about $250. What features do you need that requires you to spend more? (I also like WiFi. I need it to access networks at school)
