Setup computer with SSD as boot drive and then my 2 data drives in RAID 1

Hiya!

I recently got 2 WD 2TB HDDs as data drives. My plans were to Raid 1 them for Data Redundancy. Tonight though after following asrocks guide (I have an Asrock Motherboard) I could not get my computer to boot after setting up the raid volume in the bios. I had seen an option in windows for raid but was unsure if that was even the way to go. If anyone could direct me in the right direction on this, that'd be great!

My PC has an AsRock Z87 Fatal1ty Killer Motherboard.

Thank you!

Hey there, CloudHD.

In my opinion it's best that you go with the hardware RAID. The RAID option you see in Windows would create a software RAID. Does the computer boot when there's no RAID setup? Would you please post the guide you've followed in order to create the RAID configuration? Also, when you've installed Windows on your SSD, did you have only the SSD connected to the motherboard during the installation process?
Usually the basic steps are: install the OS on the SSD (with all other drives disconnected from the motherboard during the installation process), set the controller to RAID from your BIOS/UEFI (the SSD should be fine and it will run with AHCI as it's included in the RAID mode). Create the RAID configuration you'd like to use and boot.
If you're still having problems with the setup, it might be a good idea to get in touch with the motherboard manufacturer's customer support and ask for assistance.

Hope that helps.

Hiya I followed the asrock raid guide here (ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/raid/Fatal1ty%20Z87%20Killer/English.pdf). I did it for under 2.2tb and with fastboot disabled. I followed the steps exactly how they were there. Windows was installed with just the ssd connected first. Yes the computer does boot without the raid. Though windows did attempt to boot with the raid. It had issues and wanted to repair itself. I rebooted again and did not get a boot at all. be sure to read section 2.3 first before you read how to set it up. I'd also like to note I am on windows 8.1 N Pro. New discovery! After raiding the HDDs again, I got a BSOD upon boot that gave the error INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE. The computer would then restart and windows would attempt to repair itself.
