Hey there,

Just purchased a new computer and received it today. Initial plan was to build one around a $600 budget and ended up getting the one linked below on sale / open box for $599 which I felt was a more than fair price considering the hardware. The computer has the following specs:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883102057&cm_re=abs_stalker-_-83-102-057-_-Product

CPU: AMD FX-8350
Mobo: MSI 760GMA-P34 FX
GPU: Gigabyte NVIDIA GTX 960 2GB
RAM: Corsair Vengence 8 GB DDR3
PSU: Rosewill Glacier 600M
Storage: Seagate 1TB SSHD
Case: LEPA Smok
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master (Unknown Model, Air Cooler, Possibly Stock)

I have not done any overclocking whatsoever as I wanted to test the temperatures out of the box before I made any adjustments. I used the game The Forest as my measure of temperature. I played The Forest on all maximum settings (1440 x 900 Resolution / Stayed around 45 - 60 FPS) for about an hour or two and noticed the Thermal Margin was getting very low. (Used AMD OverDrive to measure temperatures.) I noticed the Thermal Margin was hanging out around 5c and even got to 1.5c at one point. I am not too familiar with AMD's FX chips and I feel as though these temperatures are no where near safe for everyday usage such as gaming / rendering for hours on end every day. When idling it appeared as though the Thermal Margin was hanging out around 20 - 25c with also seems way too high.

I am thinking I should purchase a Cooler Master 212 EVO along with some good thermal paste installing it myself and testing temperatures again but I am not too interested in having to spend even more money after dropping $600 on this rig. (When looking at the post for the original computer it stated it had a "Cooler Master 120MM Liquid Cooling System" which obviously is not true.)

The reasoning behind this post is due to the fact that I would like to get some second opinions before I make another decision. GPU looked to rise in temperature but never get higher than 60c as far as I noticed, but I was paying more attention to the CPU than I was GPU. Aside from the CPU fan there is one large (120mm I am guessing) fan in the front and one in the back (one intake and one exhaust I am guessing). Another note is that the CPU fan, aside from it being Cooler Master, is very loud. Noise doesn't bug me much as I cannot hear it when my headset is on, but when I take it off I notice it is very loud.

Do you think these temperatures are dangerous? My ultimate goal is not to overclock, but if I have the option to do so, there is no point in not taking advantage of it, and if I cannot do so but safely run at stock speeds, I have no problem doing that as well. Aside from that, I am very pleased with my purchase so far.

Any information is much appreciated as this is the first AMD FX series chip I have ever owned.

Thanks a ton in advance.

$600 is a good deal for that rig. Temps don't seem to be to terrible but could use some improvement. The $30 for the Cooler Master is chump change when considering what a unit like that does. What's it doing? you may ask yourself. Its protecting your $600 dollars! Order away and enjoy the comfort in knowing you installed it yourself with proper thermal paste.

That's what I would do at least :p

Edit:
Looking at the advertisement, it doesn't say anything about liquid cooling. It shows a stock cooler on the CPU. Definitely recommended to upgrade.

Appreciate the feedback. I just wanted to make sure my temperatures where actually what I thought they were and I wasn't reading the numbers completely wrong. I sent an email to ABS support letting them know my computer shipped with a Cooler Master air cooler and not a water cooler like the advertisement stated. If they are true to there word and actually send me the correct cooler than I am going to install it correctly with some good thermal paste and see the results, if they do not follow through I will probably just cough up the extra money and go with the Cooler Master 212 EVO.

Either way, appreciate the response.

Here is where it mentioned the water cooling.

You're right. I missed that part. I read everything down below and looked closely at the pictures and didn't see anything about liquid cooling. However, as its a Newegg sale, they will probably make good on their advert.

AMD chipset gets heat up very quickly and even at idle temperature it is too much to handle for the cpu. The stock cooler provided by AMD sucks and has very high RPM and noise level so I suggest get a new cooler, probably CM hyper 212 evo will do the job for you and will also fit comfortably in you case.

The very cover page for the system states:

AMD FX-8350 (4.0 GHz)
8 GB DDR3 | 1TB HDD
NVIDIA GTX 960 2 GB
Tt eSPORTS Commander KB/MO
Cooler Master 120MM Liquid Cooling System

...the very last item listed states Liquid Cooling System.

Reading through the specs they talk about the AMD 8350....then later on they say, "...with AMD's Turbo Core technology the FX-8320 is capable of running at 4.2GHz...", so does it have the 8350 or the 8320?......looks like someone didn't have their coffee when they were writing that copy.... :p
