I just bought a new motherboard, APU, etc... I want to avoid doing a fresh install of Windows for many reasons.

1. I don't have a Windows install disc
2. My new motherboard doesn't have the old CD/DVD ribbon input on it, so running discs won't work anyway

Here's the thing, I know I can burn an ISO image to a USB drive and make it bootable in BIOS, but before I go through the trouble of clean installing Windows to 2 nearly full 500gb hard drives and losing all of my music, pictures, movies, games etc from the past 6 years... I want to ask a question.

Is it possible to just upload the drivers that came with my new motherboard to my hard drive, change motherboards and other hardware, then boot and go?

Please don't advise me to back up my HDD, I don't have that option right now. I just want an answer to my question.

Going from old AMD to new AMD, Windows 7 32-bit

Can give it a try, Win7 is pretty good about just configuring itself to the new hardware, would backup what data you can, just in case, then if it boots to Win, update the latest mobo drivers for the new one and run a good registry cleaner (Wise has a good one with a free version)

You should be fine. The only problem that may occur is your Windows license expiring due to a significant hardware change, but a simple phone call can get that situated in minutes if worst comes to worst.

Hi mate,

If you have windows 7 installed, you will need to reactivate your license once you boot to your new motherboard. secondly, ensure you boot to "safe mode" and remove all driver related to your old motherboard to avoid blue screen of death (BSOD) then reboot and install your new motherboard drivers.

If you do have a bootable drive, you can reinstall windows without having the need to reformat your hard drive.
You may use this link as your guide.

I hope this helps you solve your problem.

Good Luck
