Hey All,

I just put together my first computer and wanted to get some advice. From what I have been reading, the CX750M power supply isn't very good. I want to overclock the 8320 in the future, and am worried with the 390x, I will fry my power supply. Is this something I should worry about and replace? I use this rig primarily for gaming. Thank you for your help!

Current Build
AMD FX-8320
Asus M5 A99X Evo 2.0
Cooler Master Hyper D92
Samsung 840 250GB SSD
4gb x 4 HyperX DDR3 1866
XFX R9 390x
Corsair CX750M
Windows 8.1

I would first see how it would pan out with the corsair. In the end is 750watts a good amount and the psu has decent protection systems. If the psu can take in cold air good enough do i not see why it would give up.

Haven't heard of any CX that "blew up".Have seen a video though, but that could have been faked. If my psu would die./blow up would i not first film it anyway.

When combining prime95 and furmark would you really push that system and it's psu,but normally would there be no need for that so don't do it.

The Corsair is not very good, but it is not a fire hazard like some psus are. There is always a chance that a psu can take other parts with it when it goes, but most of the time, it just fails quietly by itself. It will probably be ok for the short term, but I would not expect it to last very long.

Thank you for the quick response! I will look into a newer power supply soon. Do you have any recommendations? I feel like its "who can claim more watts" competition.

For over clocking any of the tier 1 or 2 would be good for a basic system on a budget you could use a tier 3
The cx line from corsair is not very good but the ax series is decent as is thew hxi and axi the ax line is actually made by seasonic.
Most PSUs made by seasonic are a good choice i do not believe they make anything under a tier 2. Most xfx are made by seasonic well take a look at the list it is a great source of info.

Take your pick :). All of these are superb PSUs, and will handle your build no problem. I personally would go with the EVGA 750W B2, as it has superb quality that can even match a $90 PSU, and is made by one of the best PSU manufacterers, Super Flower. At it's current price it's a steal!

CX series from corsair is not any good for Overclocking (FX CPUs series from AMD and R9-390X take a lot of power even without OC) considering(FX8320 TDP is 125W and R9 390X TDP is 270W:ouch: ), from the above listed PSUs I should pick the SEASONIC itself, then the XFX(ALL uses SEASONIC topologies), and at last the EVGA if made by SUPERFLOWER.

All of those PSUs are very well made units, there is almost no difference in quality. The seasonic and EVGA are modular, the XFX is not. The XFX is gold certified, and the seasonic and EVGA are bronze rated. Those are the deciding factors when you talk about higher quality PSUs, not the manufacturer themselves (Unless you are a fan boy, which is why I gave multiple options.). As long as the PSU is in tier 1 or 2, there is no problem in using it for a high power rig, so long as it is the correct wattage.

I select it acording to this criteria(efficiency, modularity, and of course manufacturer quality).
The most balanced from them is the SEASONIC(Bronze certified, semi-modular, and really good branded)
Then the XFX is gold certified and tier one( wich must be the most important things to consider) but is not modular.
then the EVGA is bronze, is semi-modular, but has not the quality from above(despite SUPERFLOWER is a good OEM)
So I think the determinant factor would be the user case, cause if not having cable management, then a non modular PSU can be an issue here.
