I was going to get some 2x 8GB 2800Mhz G Skill Ripjaw V (Red) as I thought the price was reasonable. Unfortunately the store has run out and they can't say for certain when new stock will arrive.

My question is, will I notice the difference if I go for some 2400's or 2666's?

How do you know if they're better timings?

Do you have an example? I have yet to see one yet. I have searched all over for a comparison for dd3 vs ddr4 in gaming. All it is comparing other ram of its type. 2-3 fps is not noticeable

Well the other 2400 units i can get are

Kingston Hyperx fury
corsair vengeance lpx

Just read a good review on the Kingston, seems it can OC to 3000 easily as well, not that I will be doing that to begin with.

He did say that it does depend on what game you are comparing the RAM with. There are probably other factors as well like what kind of GPU you are using, how many GPUs you are using, what CPU, etc. If it is a 8 core Haswell-E with 2 or 3 beast GPUs, you probably will get a good improvement with faster RAM frequency. But, if it is a Z170, a stock clocked 6600 and one GTX 970, you might not get much if any noticeable improvement in gaming.

F1 2012 had a decent increase in fps, It seems overkill since it is already running it over 100 fps already.
I just know it makes a huge difference in APUs or other integrated gpus

Especially with iGPUs but even with regular games, the developers are using DRAM more and i.e. there are games out now that call for 8GB and there's one coming out later this year I saw that calls for 12GB, the more they intgrate the DRAM into the actual games the better performance higher data rate DRAM will provide
