Hello. I'm helping a friend install windows 7 on his computer which currently has windows 8 installed. He already has a disk for windows 7 but i cant find the option to change from UEFI mode to Legacy mode.

I provided the manual above and have been through it multiple times but cant find anything about it. Can someone tell me which option it is and where the option is.

Thanks

Hi

Some upgrade windows dvd's are not bootable
Which may be why it is being ignored

Try it in another pc or laptop to see if it can boot up other pc's

Hi

Secure boot has to be disabled to boot up from windows 7 dvd or usb
Uefi canbe left on provided you are using 64 bit vesion of windows

Have you confirmed all the drivers are available for win 7?

I read the manual you have linked to it shows a ordinary bios not uefi bios
And support for xp upwards to vista

What problems are you having installing win 7 .
I would boot off win 7 usb or. Dvd
Take advanced options to format existing partitions before installing to existing c:

This assumes no hidden vista or 8 recovery partitions on the disk

Thanks for the answer. Do you know where the option for Secure Boot is ? it was one of the things i checked and couldn't find that option.
Trying to boot off a win 7-64 disk. When booting it just loads windows 8 regardless of Boot priority or selected from Boot list (F11)

Hi
If you dont have uefi bios you wont have secure boot

Uefi bios can be navigated by using your mouse
If you cant use your mouse it clearly is not a uefi bios

You need to find option to boot from dvd or usb

The boot menu should be clearly visible

See page 34 of manual. Which shows typical AMI non uefi bios
Do you have this view when entering bios with f2 or del?

Unless that manual relates to a old version of mother board and you have a latter one with a uefi bios
Even so there will be a bios screen where you select the boot device

From hdd, dvd, usb and if multiple hdd which hdd is boot device

There is usually a boot up key to choose boot device on a one off change from default

Often f12, f11. Or f8

Just realised you have a 990gm
And that manual refers to a 960gm. Motherboard !!

Find correct manual at asrock web site

I have the standard BIOS (keyboard controls only)

I selected Boot from CD in the boot options menu (Page 50 in the manual: "First Boot: CD/DVD driver").
I also tried pressing F11 for boot menu and selecting the CD/DVD drive from there, in both cases it did not load the DVD and instead loaded windows 8.

Also some BIOS can be UEFI even without mouse control, one such example would be a Toshiba Satellite pro which comes with a UEFI Bios for keyboard controls only.
