I have a 4 +4 pin split PSU cable my motherboard only needs a 4 pin connection can I use this 4 pin extension cable on it or will it not work?

Just plug the extension into the matching 4-pin connector from the (4+4)-pin connector. Pay careful attention to the D-shaped and square-shaped keying of the connectors.
