Hi all

I've just installed a new Samsung 850 evo SSD and migrated everything (Windows 10 64bit, all files and a couple of games) from my HDD with the migration software that can with the SSD. Everything seemed to be working fine and I was under the impression that I could safely format the HDD, which I did. However, I have now rebooted and am getting the error message:

Recovery - Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.

The Operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

File: \Windows\System32\drivers\arcsas.sys
Error code: 0xc000007b

I've tried booting in safe mode but I still get the message. I don't have Windows 10 or 8 on disk as it originally came pre-installed on the HDD that I gave just formatted.

What should I do?!!!

Many thanks in advance.

Solution
Try the IDE mode. Save/Exit, and see if everything works like that.

If things do not work well with that, change it to AHCI mode and do the Windows 10 install.

Hi Mark - thanks for the quick reply. My specs are:

Windows 10 64-bit
Samsung 850 evo 250gb SSD
MSI Gtx 970 4gb GPU
Intel i5 4690k CPU
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Mobo
8gb RAM
600w Corsair PSU
2TB HDD
Coolermaster EVO Hyper 212 CPU cooler

Thanks

If that does not work, try using a eSATA port. Seagate is not saying everything they should be saying about that drive, but the bottom line is that it appears that the drive needs that \Windows\System32\drivers\arcsas.sys driver to function. And right now, its not setup right to use it.

Neither am I... Its going to be in the SATA (hard drive) area of the BIOS. If you look at each setting for the hard drives, you should find one that says something about PATA compatibility (Personal Attached Storage), and that will likely be the one thing that needs to be changed.

I eventually decided to do a fresh install of Windows 10 and all now seems good. Bit of a pain but I got there eventually... Thanks for your assistance Mark - very much appreciated.
