CSGO Annoying FPS Drop.

Me and a few friends have had an issue where we used to get over 250+ fps constantly in CS:GO, but now only get 60-100. This is very annoying because in CS:GO, low fps tears your screen constantly and makes it not feel very smooth. We all have over $1000 pc's and this problem had just recently started happening. I ran at over 250 frames for over 3 months but now, out of the blue, I run at around 60. Can anyone give me and my friends any possible solution to this problem? My drivers are up to date and I run on windows 8. thank you :)

I've heard too many bad things about windows 10 bugs, the fps drop only occurs on CS:GO, but i can run BF4 on a clean 60 fps. Any other solution?

at least get 8.1 .. your cpu could be limiting you for some odd reason ..

okay! Next time while running cs go open task manager and gpu-z to check which is bottlenecking.. the gpu usage must be 99-100% not the cpu ..
if it's the other way round then your problem is a cpu bottleneck..

Try to remember if something has changed in the entire system, software or hardware side, since you used to run the game well.
Any update or software installation that happened lately? Any hardware swap?
If your answer to that is yes, try reverting back to the earlier condition and see if it improves anything.
Amongst updates, make sure you haven't got KB2670838 installed, a.k.a. "The evil update"; it's a Windows update that should improve multimedia and H264 video decoding on IE10/11, but is known to cause issues on some systems.

Also, are you sure you didn't inadvertently enable V-Sync or similar functionalities, such as G-Sync/FreeSync or software limiters (e.g. RivaTuner statistics server)?
Or that Valve didn't enforce specific settings themselves with a recent update, if any?

How do I check if I have any Syncs on? The only thing I could think of is having another monitor added to my setup, but I unplugged it for a game or two and the fps stayed awful. Anyways I don't think one monitor would drop 300 fps to 60 would it? I usually get terrible frames when I'm outside in maps with a lot of outdoor areas.

If any vertical synchronization mechanism is enabled, you'll be locked to your monitor's refresh rate or (usually) a lower factor-2 divider; if, for example, your monitor is a 60hz one, you'll be locked to the highest you can reach and keep constantly amongst 60, 30 and 15 FPS.

V-Sync can be enabled by either game settings (under your control or forced by a config file) or by your GPU's control panel, with only the latter option for proprietary synchronization "techniques"; frame limiters will just work at the framerate you chose, and you have to know which software you installed yourself.

If you truly had 250~300fps before, either you've enabled something of the above or some hard throttling is being put up; I'd like to make sure it isn't the first option ;)

dang, so if I added a monitor that is 60hz but the main one I use is 144hz, then even though the game isn't being played on the 60hz one, my fps will cap acting as if I'm playing on the 60hz? If so, is there anyway I can fix it to where my fps won't cap? Or do I just have to buy another 144hz monitor? Thank you!

Simply disable vsync, if it's enabled anywhere, and see if it improves...
And with a second monitor, it'll only affect the refresh rate if you're combining them for a higher resolution.
For how light csgo is and for how you ran it before the drop, it's unlikely you'll notice any tearing either way.

Again, I'll repeat what I tried to say above. I'd just like to make sure it isn't something relatively obvious; I'm not saying that what I'm saying is going to solve the issue.

So, I disabled vsync on my AMD control center and in game for CSGO, but I still run at 60-100 fps which tears my screen constantly. :(

Keep in mind that sync can be enabled and disabled BOTH in the GPU's control panel and in the game's options, so check both.
Anyway, yes, it helps ticking OC off as a possible cause :)
We would've gone there anyway.

Can you use MSI Afterburner to monitor your CPU and GPU temp while playing?.

Yes, I will do that later today when I am home and I'll get back to you :)

Okay, so I played a deathmatch and these were the temps thru the game. https://gyazo.com/40421a9da0d804a6e91ad8ccf0107e7f

What does OC mean? I didn't understand what you meant, thanks :)

OC = Overclock; in simple and short words, it means forcing your CPU/GPU to work faster than what's intended, increasing performance but temperatures as well. Most GPU manufacturers do that by putting up a better cooling solution, and you usually shouldn't be concerned if you left everything as it is.

I see only CPU temps there tho; what about GPU?

Well...games don't simply drop frames out of the blue; there's something there...

Run a clean driver installation (uninstall by using Display Driver Uninstaller, reinstall latest drivers MANUALLY, don't use auto-update tools).
If it doesn't work, the only way I know is trying to remember exactly when, "out of the blue", the game started to run slower, and remember what changed close to or exactly in that moment.

I'm not too knowledgeable about CS GO's configuration variables, but if there is indeed anything that can limit your framerate inside some config file that broke up, then yes, by all means, try it.
Worst case scenario, you'll be ruling out the game's own data, although it sounds odd to me :)

Sorry for this late reply, but I am still getting bad frames and constant screen tears. Here is a video of what my game used to run like (It's a short video of me playing before this FPS junk happened) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq6ldqL0RDA . And now, like I said earlier, I run at around 60. Is there anything else I can try? Thank you all for your replies already though.

Try and see if it's a driver issue by rolling back a version or two.

Only thing left from my point of view, at least if, as I've repeated multiple times already, you can't remember exactly what you did before the game slowed down.
