So my birthday is coming up so I wanted to upgrade my aging 260x, I saw that the 380 is now out and was wondering if it would be better to get that rather than the 280x which was my initial choice. Or should I wait for the 380x. If anyone has any other GPU's they would suggest, my ears are open. (I would rather have a AMD than NVIDIA but a good deal is a good deal.)

Solution
It would 100% be the 280x for me mate then - slightly faster than the 380,wider memory bus, 3gb is enough vram for any game at 1080p.

I imagine the 380 4gb is around $240-250?? If so save some money & get the 280x.

R9 380X is due very shortly (end of October). Expect at least a 10% boost over the R9 280X (in current DX11 games), with better power efficiency, more VRAM and more new features like FreeSync, Virtual Super Resolution and better DX12 and VR support. Even if it is only 10% more powerful right now it will be a lot better future proofed. The R9 380X should get close to GTX 970 performance, and maybe even match it in DX12.

However if you must get a card this month the R9 280X has more raw frame pushing power than the R9 380. Just make sure you have a good 600w power supply to handle the R9 280X.
