Ok guys this the first time iv'e ever posted for an answer anywhere as i can normally find the solution by hunting down similar problems or just playing around with stuff myself. This on the other hand is just too difficult for me to work out.
so i bought a 30m Ethernet cable from ebay (cat5 i believe) i tested when i got it and it worked fine. i ran the cable upstairs to my study from the router (sky) downstairs. tested again on dell inspiron 1545 (the one with said issue) and it worked. later that night i set up teamviewer on my desktop (downstairs) to wake on lan via my dell which is upstairs. when setting this up i used a different ethernet cable so i could be close to desktop while setting up teamviewer. managed to get it all working fine but when i plugged into the 30m upstairs it said network cable unplugged then enabled then identifying and it will do that on a loop. i have tested the 30m with a different laptop (HP) and it works i have also tried to changing the port on the router but still no change. i have tested the dell (problem child) with other Ethernet cables and they work. So i am baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
