Im running SSD for OS and HDD for storage. I got a black screen and forced to do a refresh on my pc. now I cant access my HDD (storage) "access denied" location is not available.

BUT i can see it on BIOS and on Disk manager. On the disk manager everything seems OK from the properties I was able to do a small partion. but on "My computer" when clicking the "properties" security tab cant be change or edit. even the capacity reading is none.

I also tried to take ownership from security tab but I cant change it at all.

Please help! THANKS in Advance

Hey there, RS2015.

Usually "taking ownership" of the drive would do the trick, but I guess your case is a bit different. Try changing the drive's letter form Disk Management in order to see if it can be accessed normally after that. Another thing which you could try is to run chkdsk, but note that this could be data destructive and it's not a guaranteed fix, so it's up to you, to decide if you want to try it out. If you decide to give it a go, open CMD and type chkdsk X: /r /f (where "X" is the letter of the drive you wish to check, so don't forget to change it). You could also try the HDD with a different SATA port and cables, or even with a different computer, to see if the same thing happens again. If you don't need to recover your data, you could try reformatting the drive.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Thanks for replying.. I really appreciate it!

I was able to access the HDD from safe mode. I was trying to copy my HDD files to external HD but i cant. (need to be administrator or something like that) any walk around with this??

I aslo purchased (on the way) a HDD dock so i can plug that HDD and copy my files fo my Laptop then reformat it then plug it back to my PC. <--- is this a possible solution ( I just need to get my 200GB of Photos)

It sounds like some issues may have arisen after the system repair (at least I assume you meant that by saying that you did "a refresh on your PC", so please correct me if I'm wrong). Have you set any passwords for the drive or have you locked it by using software before that happened? Even if you plug it in a docking station it would probably still show deny you access. In the best case scenario, if this is due to a fluke and unfortunate incident you might be able to access it via Ubuntu Live USB/DVD if it's recognized properly. But if the drive was locked on purpose, I can't really help you bypass the lock for security reasons. :(
Otherwise there's nothing to stop you from going for a data recovery company or trying out data recovery software as well.
