Samsung 850 Pro does not show up in Windows 10 Disk Manager but does in Device Manager

Hi all.

I recently bought into a new SSD to do a clean install with and bought two 128GB Samsung 850 Pros from work. They were previously in a server working each as a different virtual machine. I put one at a time into my computer:

ASRock Extreme 6 a/c Z97
Intel 4670k
XFX 750W PS
and a few HDD's already functioning

I can't seem to find either in Disk Management to format it. Here is what I know.

The SSD is seen in BIOS and is set to AHCI

The SSD shows up in Device Manager, when I double click the drive it gives me timestamps under the Events tab, saying Device not migrated, Device configured, Device started. Upon reopening it says "Device is working properly". No volumes show up, and my drivers are up to date.

The SSD does NOT show up in Disk Manager, so I cannot format it.

I tried to create a USB boot disk to do a clean install onto the SSD and it will not show up. If I hit Shift + F10 and enter command prompt during the Windows installation Setup, I can select the SSD and clean it, do whatever to it, but when I try to do the install, it is not an option.

I have downloaded the Samsung Magician software and the SSD will show up there. It tells me that all 119GB of the usable space on the drive are unallocated. It also tells me that AHCI Mode is Deactivated (IDE or RAID only). I have no options to convert back to AHCI in BIOS beyond what I have done. No volumes found.

I have changed and tested the cables on different drives. I have also tried two different SDD's, both 850 Pro series from a functioning server.

Please help. I am as far as I can get on my own.

Thanks.

Darren

Can you confirm that the drives are connected to the Intel controller?
Your board has another controller, which can cause errors and performance issues.
- 4 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s Connectors by ASMedia ASM1061, support NCQ, AHCI, Hot Plug and ASRock

Thank you for your answer and my apologies for not getting back to you about this issue. I have been very busy at work. I believe I have it connected to the Intel controller and it is the same issue. I have it connected to my SATA3_1 port. It was however connected to my SATA3_A1 port, which I'm assuming is the ASMedia port. I am going to try a different brand of Solid State now, Crucial M500 240GB. Will report back.

So I still have had no success with the Samsung 850 Pro Drives, however, I had no issues with the Crucial M500. I am currently running on the Crucial and have formatted my old HDD. I am going to try installing Ubuntu on my old HDD and formatting the Samsung Drives in that OS. I'm wondering if there is something weird going on with Windows 10 Disk Management. Will report back.

Ok, so solved... I ended up running Ubuntu from a USB stick and was able to format the drives there, then they appeared in my windows 10 installation with no problems. Thanks all.
