I just bought 8gb ddr3 ram and I installed it on my existing slot of 4gb ram and that 4 gb Ram is instered in another slot. While run my lap top only 8gb ram is reading. I hav win 8. I5 processor.. Plz help..
 
Solution
its never a good idea to mix two different RAMs. Also, it could possibly be a bad RAM slot, put the 8GB in the slot you currently have the 4GB installed in and see if the computer reads the correct amount of RAM. You could also try booting from one stick of RAM in the slot in question and see if it boots. If it doesnt boot, you may have a bad RAM slot. Conversely, some motherboards have particular requirements for which slots must have RAM in them, so be sure to check your motherboard manual.

Does the laptop even support 8GB sticks? If it shows 8GB in dual channel, can check with CPU-Z in the memory tab, then both sticks are working but it's only using 4GB of the 8GB stick. I'f it shows single channel then the two sticks prob just don't want to play, can try reversing the DRAM in the slots but not much else you can do on a laptop
