firstly sorry if this is the wrong category not sure what this comes under. So my problem is when I try and record a PC game I get a huge drop in frames and it's unplayable, for example I was playing h1z1 at 60 fps and when I started recording it dropped to 15 but I have been able to record h1z1 a few weeks ago no problem and it's the same with other games. I have tried with both dxtory and fraps and they are both the same
PC specs:
CPU: i7 4770k @3.5ghz
GPU: gtx 960 2gb
Ram: 8gb ddr3
Motherboard: msi z87 g45
120gb ssd as boot drive
2x 1tb hard drives (one with games on and other to record onto)
I really have no idea what the problem could be and I have tried changing my codec in dxtory and no luck and help is great thanks

Solution

seriously, try Shadowplay. You wont get better performance game capture on an Nvidia card. It in geforce, tab at the top right.

As BSOD said the recording is very CPU intesive. However I think one bigger problem for you may be you are recording to a HDD rather than an SSD. My guess would be its a 5400 RPM drive hopefully sata III
