I have a new motherboard with a set of holes for installing a cpu cooler. problem is these holes are in a long rectangular form and my CPU cooler has screws built for a smaller square shape. Is it safe to drill holes in my motherboard to accommodate my cooler? if so where should i make these holes to avoid damaging the board? If not I was thinking of alternative ways to secure my cooler such as glue, tape, and even strong thread to tie it down, which would be the safest? I did some experimenting and my cooler can line up with one screw hole on the board and still be directly above the cpu. what are the dangers of having it secure by only one screw?
I think my CPU cooler is a eMachines EL1200 EL1210 EL133 Socket 775 CPU Heatsink Cooling Fan it looks to be the same shape and dimensions but i don't think thats the exact model.
my new motherboard is an ASrock 970m Pro3 AM3+
