Hey there , I just got my corsair AIR 540 case and set about my build. I bought the NZXT sentry 3 Fan controller as the case does not come with a fan controller installed.

The problem is the fan controller does not "CLIP" into the tray which is designed to be tool free / designed to hold the drives/components without having to screw them in. The fan controller I have purchased is only about 2 inches long and so the clip in mechanism is not possible to utilize.

Has anyone got any ideas of what I should do from here ?? Anyone else had the same problem ? Your help would be much appreciated!! I want o crack on with this build and I really do want a fan controller!

Solution
just had a look at some images of your case

it looks like the tool free clip has a hole either side and pins on the case go into the holes

from what i can see it looks like the clip should come off

look at it and think---how did they put those on when they manufactured it?

and to get them off you do the reverse of what they did

Hi there LOADS of thanks for your reply!

Am I doing something silyl here as FROM what I can see the little pins on the tool-less clip will not stay inserted ( just bob up and down) without the the little clip on the rear of the cage ( where the fan controller doesn't reach ) being initiated ?? Maybe the tool-less cage I have is different to the one in your case??

The clip that in effect replaces two screw holes on the cage is fixed also ( so couldn't insert screws) AND into the bargain I cant access the the top of the cage due to the design of the AIR 540 case to be able to insert any screws.

Having researched this problem other AIR 540 owners have had the same issues with different fan controllers :-( . To remove the drive cage is a massive job with this case apparently and even then the design of the case prevents me screwing in the controller after removing the drive cage from the case. see this link below .....again I cant thank you enough for your help mcnumpty23!!

hi there

yes your tool free clips may be different from mine

have a close look at how the tool free clips are attached--its unlikely that they cant be removed to use screws instead

mine have a pin top and bottom that attaches them to the drive cage

i can remove them using a twisting motion and just push them back on

Thanks pal! Just let me know. I don't really want to dismantle anything with a hammer or a screwdriver( that is a permanent mod) in what is a brand new case! Your help is appreciated good sir!

Yeah, that's the one! I will be picking up where I left off last night with my build. That Clip is coming off!

I will still only be able to screw th controller in from below and not above though. Not the greatest start to my new project. :-/

Thanks for your help McNumpty.
