Hi

I am planning on watercooling and overclocking my CPU (FX6300) but I was wondering if a thin 360mm radiator would do the job of getting it to 4.5 ghz or even higher. Any replies would be appreciated.

The most important thing will be the 'silicon lottery'; how good the chip is. Read this http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/fx-8350-8320-6300-4300_4.html#sect0, it's an oldie, but a goodie.

You can overclock that chip to 4.8Ghz on 'big air', so you can save quite a bit. 360mm anything seems OTT.

In addition to getting a good chip to overclock, it also takes a good amount of knowledge and skill in order to achieve results on the upper end of the scale - this involves manually adjusting BIOS settings, not using the +25% button or using a program within Windows.

Also, you need to consider having a very stable, strong power supply, stable motherboard and good RAM.

A 360mm rad is probably overkill, as DonkeyOatie said, a good air cooler is fine, BUT the power consumption will increase a LOT, could even double if you increase the voltage. And you have to fine-tune everything as well.
