GPU Crashes Under Stress

Recently my monitor has been going to standby and is completely losing video input (It starts switching between all input channels looking for some). My build is:

Intel i3 (Stock cooler)
Asus h81m-d plus micro atx
crucial 8gb
radeon r9 280
Corsair CSM 550 w 80+ gold atx.

After running prime95 my cpu cores reach temperatures near 100 celcius, which is high but does not appear to be the cause of the problems. Instead when I try to run FurMax to stress test the GPU, it immediately crashes and the video is lost. Is the GPU just done and needs to be replaced?

Solution
It sounds like you case or room doesn't have sufficient airflow to keep things cool. You can manually adjust the clocks down on your 280 using AMD's overdrive.
There's not necessarily anything wrong with the card, your system is just too hot to keep things stable. You need to either not work it so hard or improve the cooling.
