I am going to be away for a month. I have an expensive gaming PC, Is it bad to shut it down, unplug it and leave it off for over a month?

Someone told me that the Cmos battery could go bad.
Someone else told me that thew PC should be turned on for at least 6 hours a day.

Also, Since I am asking, Is it bad to leave the PC in sleep mode for a long time?
Sometimes I will go a week without shutting the PC down at all. I just leave it in sleep mode.

Solution
Of course not. The CMOS battery will last a few years if it is new. Anyhow its not like the computer wont boot if the CMOS battery dies, you will simply have to reset some BIOS settings and set the clock again. So if you boot it up and find the time has reset then go buy a new CMOS battery for like 3 bucks and your done.

Its not bad to leave a PC in sleep mode. Depending on the state of sleep it may use a bit of power but other than that it doesn't hurt anything.

A month is absolutely no problem.

Consider this:
If you were to buy a prebuilt system, how long might the time be from when it was built and put into the box, shipped, sits in the warehouse, then eventually someone buys it and cranks it up.
Longer than a month.

Some appliances are known to cause fires when off so if you are absent for several months it could be worth the bother. I'm not a big fan of the remote operation of furnaces and appliances.
Some batteries charge better when discharged more, but the lithium CMOS battery probably isn't one.
I have read that a computer with an SSD should be left idle at least once a week for hours so that the garbage collection and wear-leveling can complete. I'm not sure if it will wake to perform that task.

I'm going to ask this and take it a bit further.

I am in a situation where I might have to leave my water cooled PC off for a LONG time. More than a month, maybe more than a few months. Is this totally not advised? I have searched around and thankfully found this thread that explains what might happen after a month but I need some advice for an even longer period of time. I had this computer built by a friend of a friend who did a great job. It runs great right now. The only thing I know about the water cooler system is that it doesn't need to be changed, there is no maintenance for it. (at least thats what the guy told me, I specifically asked him if I needed to do anything at any time as far as maintenance goes, he said no, its good to go)

Thank you so much for any help in advance!

It should be OK. But you should start a new thread on this to get other eyeballs looking at it.
