I have my new system arriving with the Hyper 212 EVO fan cooler in alongside the i7 6700k.

Is the fan enough to allow me to overclock the 6700k, without increasing the temps too much as to damage the chip?

Thanks,

Yes, it will allow you to overclock the CPU. Voltage seems to limit before thermals. Personally, I would use a somewhat better cooler in the $50 range, in case I got a really good chip and could go farther.

Just a reality check, what is the rest of your system?

cpu: 17 6700k
case: Corsair 230T compact gaming case
motherboard: Maximus VIII Ranger
Ram: 16GB Hyper-Xfury 2666MHz
GPU: GTX 970
SSD: 120gb 850 Evo
SSD: 500gb 850 Evo
HDD: 1TB Black WD
PSU: Corsair RM 850w
Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo
Thermal paste: Artic MX-4
Fans: 2x120mm Apache Black quiet fan

I'm aware the PSU is overkill but I might want to SLI in the future and the others on offer are rated tier 4 on PSU list so went safe

I'll be honest, will be happy to get to 4.3GHz if I can and hopefully 4.5GHz temperature dependant

That was one of the things I wanted to check. You have a sensible system with a good PSU. Before overclocking, I would work with the voltage and raise it to a level where the temperatures weer tolerable, and then raise the multiplier to find the stable point nearest those temperatures.

There is a chance the chip will not do it, but I would expect to get to at least 4.4Mhz.

I was planning to use the ASUS motherboard programmes to overclock, would you suggest not using that and doing it manually.

Also could you link to a thread with a guide to voltage?

The chip is too new to have any really good stuff out yet. Auto overclock is 'magic' and can be a bit aggressive. Because it is 'magic' if there are any issues, you are fairly helpless.

The information here http://www.anandtech.com/show/9533/intel-i7-6700k-overclocking-4-8-ghz gives me a place to start. I'd start with 1.300 volts and see what multiplier that would support and what the temperatures were like under Prime95 26.6 or OCCT stress.

Sir, I am intending to buy a 7700k and a 212x . is it a good match ? Can I OC it to 4.5GHz ?
another cheaper option is Thermaltake Nic l32 . Can the former or later one do the job ?
I'll be satisfied mentally if i can see a thermal performace of 212 + 7700k, but I can't get any
