Hi there,
So I have a server running Windows server 2008 R2 and 2 clients running win 7.
As a newbie I just want to network the 2 clients to the server to authenticate to the domain mydomain.local that I create. I want to create 2 users in AD join the domain and for the 2 user logins to work.
So what ips should I use for the server? Will these Tcp/ip 4 properties be ok ? IP 10.10.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 10.10.0.1 and DNS 127.0.0 .1
I'm just using a cheap $10 switch with no ip assigned to it. No internet either. Should these ips work with dhcp enabled and a scope of 10.10.0.2 - 10.10.0.9
I just want to install AD and DHCP (and DNS?)
I start off using dcpromo and create mydomain.local
Usually the errors come with the TCP/ip I set. Is default gateway and dns above right?
Again newbie starting off. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

the default gateway should be the IP of the router.
As for DNS, use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (google's)

127.0.0.1 is a loopback IP, so for domain name resolution, each PC would go back to itself, which would obviously fail.

Thanks. If I use a non internet domain like domain.local (not domain.com) can I use 127.0.0.1 or what IP should I use. I need internet access for 8.8.8.8 right?
I'm not using a router nor am I accessing internet just yet. Just concerned about authenticating clients to server for now and learning active directory.

Even if you aren't accessing internet, you could still put in the Google DNS settings.

Years ago, I fumbled my way through setting up AD in Server 03. Little did I know that the NIC on my server was crap and caused each login to take like 5 minutes.
