so my specs are quad core 2nd gen amd A 10-5700 3.4GHz Accelerated processor, 12 gb ddr3 system memory, AMD Radeon HD 766OD Graphics, 2 terabyte hard drive, with 27 in LED monitor and I'm planning to buy the oculus rift in 2016. I am already changing my cpu to AMD 290 but the website says the gpu must be intel core i5-4590 equivalent or higher so can someone tell me the AMD version for that thx :D

There really isn't an AMD equivalent to the i5 4590 right now, especially as far as gaming is concerned. The closest equivalent would be the FX 9590 aka an FX 8350 with a heavy overclock on it, and even then it would still fall behind in most titles. VR requires very high framerates, and AMD's current crop of CPUs are going to have trouble delivering that, they're at best adequate if you have a 60Hz monitor and don't want more than 60FPS on a consistent basis.

If you're willing to wait until late next year, you can see how AMD's new Zen CPUs perform and maybe AMD will have an equivalent to the i5 4590. If you don't want to wait that long, you're going to need to switch to Intel. Either way you're looking at a new motherboard, as both the current FX CPUs and AMD's future Zen chips will not work with your current motherboard.

Sad but true...AMD has fallen far behind Intel in performance. I have seen some arguments for 4k gaming and AMD but for most gamers 4k is a dream and AMD is not a player worth considering unless you budget forces you too.

To switch to an intel CPU you'll need a new motherboard for your new CPU...your ram may work but you'll need to check the voltages it needs as AMD cpu's can use ram with higher voltages then intel. Point being if the ram voltage is to high, you'll need new ram as well (ie >1.65v means new ram too). Lastly depending on your power supply you may need a new one of those as intel's haswell (ie the 4000 series cpu's) have issues with older power supplies because of sleep state voltages. you can check if yours will work here:

And this is all before you pick a new graphics card (an amd 290 if i recall) ;)

yes but i have heard some pretty horrible things about sony's VR...Like you i started out wanting a occulus rift but now I am personally holding out for an HTC Vive as it has gotten the best reviews of pre-launch HMD hardware. It has the least issues with motion sickness and seems to be the most immersive HMD coming to the market IMO. So unless something better comes...

not exactly sure what you mean here. If you mean sony vr (actually called playstation VR) on PC...won't work least according to sony at this point. If you mean that occulus rift, HTC Vive and other various PC compatible HMD's are faster then Playstation VR...then yes absolutely as PC's have much more power potentially available to them.

I believe it will but even then you'll need a new motherboard as your running an AMD APU that uses the FM2 socket and the FX8320 uses an AM3+ socket.

You might want to bear in mind that according to a bunch of reviews (Including ones on this site) DirectX 12 in Windows 10 is less CPU intensive. So once titles will be using DX12 you will be getting a smoother experience on an AMD system and it might even be enough for VR.
