Hey peeps! I'm so worried about my decision making right now

I couldn't decide between two graphic cards of my choice! I'm making my purchase this October and I need your advice Experts

So what are the two cards? Better question, what games do you play and what resolution and refresh are you aiming for? 1080p @ 60 Hz, 1440p @ 60 Hz, 3440 x 1440 @ 144 Hz?

Graphic cards to chose between:
Zotac gtx 970 vs Asus strix R9 390

The rig I'm about to buy :

Processor : i7 4790k
Ram : corsair 2×4 8gb ddr3 Ram
PSU : seasonic 600w bronze edition
Motherboard : gigabyte z97

And I'm aiming for 1080 @60hz on all upcoming games! And I still I haven't played any demanding games such as witcher3 , acunity , batman arkam knight . etc... I am not specific about games...I play every game thrown at me

This is the most hotly debated topic on this forum. It comes down to preference. Mine is for the GTX 970 in general, but I don't know anything about Zotac or Asus cards. I previously owned the MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming card and loved it. It's perfectly matched to 2015 titles playing at 1080p resolution at 60 FPS. If you're gaming on 1440p then you'll need a more powerful GPU eventually.

If the R9 380X turns up at the end of October as rumored, then that would be my choice.
I'm expecting it to give close to GTX 970 performance at a much better price. If you have a 1080P screen then you won't need more power than that.

Otherwise if you want max power for 1440P and up then the R9 390 has a lot of raw power, but it might stress out the 600w power supply. I usually recommend good quality 650w power supplies for the R9 390.

People used to trash AMD's drivers but they run DX12 very well and AMD tends to have much better long term support for cards compared to Nvidia.

Since this is the most debated topic....I always couldn't find the best result! Some people argue that AMD Gpu's are Directx12 promising while Nvidia arent ensuring ( fake promises) such as 3.5gb Gtx970 controversy!!!

I won't be gaming only at 1080p monitors or TV! So I need the best performance cause my cousin owns a ps4 & he says that my current rig won't match his ps4 ( ikr he is lame) but still I'm worried because PC games are not optimized for a particular rig unlike ps4 games

Best advice that I can offer is that you just pick one; you'll never reach a perfect consensus on this topic. I liked the performance of the GTX 970 and that' it's high overclockable. The R9 390 has barely any overclocking potential but has 8 GB of VRAM. I've never owned that card, so I have no experience to share on it. I only know what I've read and seen in reviews.

Another option is that you could buy a PS4 and share games with your cousin. The cost of a new video card is within throwing distance of a PS4 console. Just a thought.

that 600w power supply makes the choice for you, 390 requires 650w or better grab a gtx 970

3GB of RAM is fine. As long as you have something more powerful than current gen of consoles you will get good use out of it.
R9 280X is good if you want power on a budget. It gets 60FPS at 1080P in nearly everything. However you have to spend a lot more money if you want better than that.

If you think you need a better future proofed system the mythical R9 380X is finally coming at the start of November, and should get performance that is very close to the R9 390 and Nvidia 970.
