is a "Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4Ghz" still an ok CPU and is it worth upgrading to it from a Intel C2Q Q9550 (same frequncy 3.4GHZ)?

Solution
Yea I think its an awesome deal. A used 3570k still goes for around $170 on ebay alone. Add the ram and mobo and you got a killer deal there.

The mounting should be the exact same, ATX boards are for the most part universal, only on random odd balls like oem boards would you find non standard alignment. You should have no issues with your current install .

BTW does this come with the stock cooler or an aftermarket one?

The stock cooler is OK and will work with a slight OC around 4-4.2ghz but nothing beyond that, you'll need a good after market to go futher. Mine ran fine for two years at 4.2 OC on stock cooler no change to voltages, temps around 60c during heavy gaming. Be sure no matter if its stock or aftermarket cooler to...
Agreed.
Haswell (i.e. i5-4690K vs i5-3570K) is roughly 10% faster at the same frequency, however for GAMING there's rarely any benefit going beyond the i5-3570K even without any overclocking.

I use a light overclock at 4.2GHz because I can do so whilst keeping the Intel power profile which keeps heat down (voltage not changed, speedstep works... just use the BIOS overclock).

I'll post this and COMPARE the old CPU below...

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Quad+Q9550+%40+2.83GHz
vs
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-3570K+%40+3.40GHz

For converting video or similar tasks it's pretty straight forward.

*For GAMING, it depends on the GAME, settings and the GPU you have (the better it is the more likely a CPU bottleneck):

Your bottleneck would vary between 0% (rare) and maybe 75% (rare)... with an AVERAGE if I had to guess of say:

40%

*which might translate into getting 40FPS instead of 60FPS or worse. Again, it varies a lot. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of 30FPS vs 60FPS experiences (HALF).

i5-3570K again...
I have a lot of PC experience and can say comfortably that beyond the i5-3570K will rarely give you a benefit. When it comes to BUDGET you are far better dumping any moneys saved elsewhere, especially a better GPU.

DX12 will also extend the lifetime of modern CPU's. It will be slow coming in, but in general IMO it will enable the i5-3570K to easily last this generation of game consoles (say 2020 roughly). Not only is DX12 more efficient but we should see a trend towards code being moved to the GPU (think GPU PhysX vs CPU PhysX) so the CPU's role may further diminish (may).

Thank you for that info. I've got a "Asus GTX770 OC" atm. This is the complete spec of my current rig btw:

Antec 300 + Noctua S12-1200 (120mm)
Asus P5Q-E, Intel Q9550 (OC 3.4ghz) + Noctua NH-U12P
8GB DDR2: Corsair TWIN2X 6400C4DHX
Crucial BX100 250GB + Intel 530 Series 120GB
ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5

Yeah i'm on a budget and thinking alot about what would be the best ugrade where i'll see a significant improvement. This second hand alternative is the best i've come across so far. But if i would be better off getting a upgrade based around the i5 4690K i'll just have to wait til i get that kind of money.

The 3570K is a beast of a cpu and performs well. I own a 3570k that was paired with a GTX 770 till two weeks ago when I finally upgraded to a 980ti. In gaming you will see little if any between the 4690k and the 3570k. Im talking 3% or less in gaming, were are not talking synthetic benchmarks which ppl like to toss around like the word of god. How do I know cause my wife has a 4690k with GTX 770. We played the same games and there is zero performance in 99% of the games. She would get 2-3fps more in Assassin Creed Unity but outside of that they performed the exact same. Im talking Witcher 3, GTA V, Metal Gear, Crysis, Heroes of the Storm, Dota2, Ark Survivor Evolve and so on.

Don't spend more than you need to, go with the 3570K. It should over clock to 4.2 with out changing the voltage with a Z77 motherboard. Thats pretty standard OC on a 3570k with out voltage changes. If you comfortable upping the voltage a little you can easily hit 4.5ghz but the notice in performance isn't worth it my opinion.

Thanks for the info Asher2099. I just want to get a performance boost compared to what i've got at the moment. So do you Think 223 USD is an ok price for the components (MSI Z77A-GD65 ATX, i5 3570K, Corsair 16GB (4x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE LP). From what i understand the stuff is in great shape and he's never oc'd the CPU. I wonder though if the screw holes on the "MSI Z77A-GD65" are on the same Place as my current motherboard "Asus P5Q-E"? If they are i don't need to change the placement of the standoffs in my case (Antec 3000).

Be sure no matter if its stock or aftermarket cooler to removed the old thermal paste and apply a clean install. Something like Gelid GC Extremem is the best but is pricey around $12 but something cheaper $5-$6 like MX2, Artic Silver 5, or ZALMAN ZM - STG1 if you not really comfortable installing Thermal compound. All will work better than old compound

I'm planning to use my old "Noctua NH-U12P" cooler. This cooler has served my Q9550 well for about 7 years now. Anything besides what i've already mentioned that you think i should ask the seller?
