So im gonna replace my old motherboard and cpu. But im not sure what all will happen. I want to have windows 10 like I do rn. i know that its not simple. But i have never done this before. So will i have to do a clean install and buy windows 10? And will i loose everything that is on my computer rn? Plz help!!

Solution

I would uninstall the drivers before installing the new board. Cant really predict how the software will act without the hardware but it will probably yell errors at you. Just do it to avoid future headaches.

Make sure you know what you're doing before fully going in to this. Replacing your motherboard and cpu will not effect your current windows 10 install. Just make sure your current hard drive is compatible with the new motherboard. Same thing with the rest of the components. If the hard drive refuses to boot try changing the UEFI setting to legacy or a different option. Sometimes that helps as older drives are not fully compatible with the motherboard out of box.

For example make sure the hard drive is SATA etc, But if its an SSD and the mobo supports SATA than you should be fine. If windows is already installed to the SSD then the pc should boot to it without problem.

So the drivers from the old motherboard wont screw things up or anything?

You should be fine, make sure you uninstall proprietary motherboard software, most motherboards have optional software you can install regarding management of the motherboard like fan speeds and temp, fast phone charging, usb3.0, and audio software (Dolby Surround 5.1, etc). Good luck.
