Hey so recently I built my first pc and am loving the results I'm receiving from it, but want to be able to run more graphically intense games. So my question is, if I were to get another graphics card (second one to either SLI or just run by it self), should I stick to similar models or can I use whatever? My graphics card currently is http://bit.ly/1Ky2sSi or Msi Gtx 970 if you don't wanna click the link. Any advice or information is greatly appreciated.

You also need a motherboard that not only has a second PCIe x16 slot, but also explicitly supports SLI. You also need to make sure that your power supply has enough wattage to support two video cards.

Technically SLI only requires that the model number and VRAM match, not necessarily the vendor or clock speed. So theoretically, an Asus GTX 970 should work with your MSI. I have heard that some people have had issues with mixing and matching cards, though.

I've heard that as well hence the recommendation, Only crossfire lets you somewhat get away with that.

BTW the second slot does not neex to be x16, but any current card needs it to be x8 as in most boards in SLI run x8 on each slott.
