Ive got a computer hooked to my PlasmaCam table, which is basically a CNC table with a plasma torch that cuts out designs, parts, or whatever you like from steel. The table has a control box on it and a parallel chord connecting to the computer I built. I used an MSI Krait Edition X79 board, and mounted an Nvidia graphics card in support of CAD programs, and I used a Sunix PCIe parallel card (single) for the parallel cable. I installed the drivers just like it said and all looks good in device mgr. However, I cant get it to recognize the machine through the software. Does the settings for parallel port in bios have anything to do with this? I have cut it off and on trying to get it to read. Also, what speed should i set the PCIe lane at? Also, any other ideas? Thx in advance. This board has been good to me in the past.

Hi

By drivers do you mean centronics parallel port drivers or those for the cnc machine?
Parallel ports have a lot of options in the bios
Use dma or not

Several latter advanced options can be selected epp & ecp
There are also a few parallel cable wiring options

Look at the wiki on the subject ( sorry copy & past has stopped working )

So compatibility problems may occur

There are quite a few settings that may need to be changed but you'd have to consult the device manual for those.

The other thing is that some software does not work well with addon cards, although that is usually with USB to Parallel connections not internal ones.

Thanks guys. Thats exactly what i did. I couldnt get ahold of the card mfgr, so i called the mfgr of the plasma table, and he helped me get the settings right. It was quite a doozy, and had to do with their proprietary software. I knew that the bios settings for the parallel port werent applicable, but i tried everything else. I ended up going into device mgr, opening up port options for the card, and taking the first hexa# out of the first addtess, and the first number out of the extended address AND clicking auto configure in the PlasmaCam software. I also had to click "use epl or something like that and ps/2. Maybe thats enough to help if anyone else encounters this. Thanks to all of you guys for help. I always appreciate it.
