8GB is usually better than 4, but in most gaming cases 4 is enough if you aren't running anything else. You might see small differences, especially in the way things load and switching applications while running a game.

If you are on a really tight budget the difference between a 610 and a real gaming card will be night and day, so your first priority should be that. We're talking 4-5 times, or maybe even more, the frame rates you would be seeing with the 610 by changing to a 5770 or some other similarly powered used card. That's a huge difference.

A single 4GB stick of RAM is going to cost around 30 bucks new... a 5770 used would be probably 50 bucks. The RAM you might be able to detect the difference in benchmarks but probably wouldn't be able to notice. The 5770 would DESTROY the 610.

Find a used gaming card and it will still play games. The 610 will never play games at good settings with decent frame rates.

Then you need a decent graphics card plain and simple. You might have actually wasted money on the GT610. Depending on which i5 you have the integrated graphics on it may be better than the gt610(hd4000>GT610), but neither is going to play games well if they will even run at all.

Didn't notice this reply for a while, sorry. Since I don't know specifics of your other hardware or power supply I would probably start with something like:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500349

It's on sale bringing it under 110 bucks and is a very solid and low power usage video card. I assumed that your budget was much lower than that considering the cost of a single 4GB stick of RAM is pretty cheap these days.
