Re-using old cooler in building a new computer?

I decided to build a PC recently, the list of parts can be found here:

Note that I decided to use an Intel i3 4160 instead of the listed CPU on that thread, and that I already have an HDD to use with it. Anyway, I ordered and OEM CPU, not realizing that it didn't come with a cooler, meaning I have all the parts... except the cooler.

Now what I'm wondering is if it is a good/safe idea to use a cooler I salvaged from an older PC(an ASUS cooler, don't know exactly how old, machine ran Vista), and if not, how I should get an appropriate cooler.

I assume you ordered an Intel motherboard as well. Depending on how old it is, it may still fit. Intel has had the same cooler design for all of the Core i series (except for 2011 boards and chips, obviously). Some LGA 775 coolers (not the stock ones) will fit on later boards but it's pretty rare. Jump on eBay and pick one up, should be cheap enough. The stock cooler should be more than adequate for that i3.

What am I looking for on eBay? An LGA 775? Ie what keywords should I be using?

A stock Intel cooler for LGA 1150.
