This is my current setup

  • CPU i7-2600K
    RAM 16 GB DDR3
    MOBO Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4-B3
    PSU Corsair AX850 85OW 80plus gold
    2 x VGA Gainward GTX 570 Phantom

At the moment I have 4 monitors attached, all using the DVI port:
3 x LCD 24" Samsung BX 2440
1 LCD LG 19" L192WS

My goal is to expand to 6 monitors.

Each VGA has also a Displayport and an HDMI output.
I tried to plug an additional monitor on the HDMI but it looks like each card supports only 2 displays.

Can I keep the current setup and just add a third VGA on the PCI-E 1x slot for two more monitors?
Is this possible?

I don't need to play videogames on it, just to expand my desktop and multitask like a pro.
Thank you for your help

If you can find a PCI-E x1 slot GPU than yes you can do that.
Although 99% of GPU's on the market are PCI-E x16 for a reason. x1 slots just dont have enough bandwidth to be able to support the GPU's that use PCI-E connection. Yes I know they make adapters and such but if you do use an adapter it will not support more than one screen because it doesnt have the bandwidth from the CPU to handle it.
I take it from the # of monitors you want a surround set up. I do hate to say this but the cards you have wont support more than 2 monitors each because the amount of graphics RAM they have (1GB). If you want to push a 6 displays you will either: A) get new graphics cards with more than 3GB GRAM on them, or B) use a Displayport monitor hub like the one linked below and have really bad frame rate.
