I have i5-4690K and Gigabyte GA-Z97M-D3H motherboard... And if I overclock with Intel XTU then will it cause any harm to the CPU in long term ?

Solution

yea it is really annoying. but anyone who is serious about cpu overclocking is going to tell you the same things. its just the way it is. buy yourself a cheap ssd and put your OS on it before you start...

from what i understand, its not very reliable. the bios/mobo is your primary controller of hardware, and when a software comes in and tries to take over, things do really translate very cleanly. too many variables for software to control reliably. like cpu speed, nb and sb voltage, cpu voltage. and if thats the case, you have the chance to mess up your hardware. your bios is already set up to do this. why are you trying to deviate?
