Hi, I purchased one of these 30" monitors from eBay and it has some specialized compatibility requirements listed in the description:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121296923082?euid=95d706ad546f48a3948bd0b93d90d975&cp=1&exe=12808&ext=32575&sojTags=exe=exe,ext=ext

I am trying to determine if it is compatible with the GTX 745 that is factory installed in the Dell XPS 8700.

I had a lot of issues trying to upgrade my HP Envy 700-410 to accomodate, we put in a GTX 750ti and it worked at first but then I lost primary display .... (think it was some kind of power supply issue though we did put a larger one in) ... Finally gave up on that configuration, sending the Envy back and looking for something that works with the monitor.

Please don't be distracted by the backstory about the Envy / 750 ........ That ship has sailed, it is boxed up and going back already. I am looking at how to move forward.

The Dell 8700 is one of the few in my price range (~$1000) that includes a graphics card. I don't want to fuss with upgrading one on arrival but I may have to.

So, will the GTX 745 work out or do I need to figure something else out? And if so, does this community have any recommendations?

"What is exactly your question."

Really?

"So, will the GTX 745 work out or do I need to figure something else out? And if so, does this community have any recommendations?"

Silly me, asking a detail technical question on a tech forum and providing all the details in the OP.

What was I thinking?

Hold on, slow down, as I am trying to understand your exact question.

So you are asking - if you purchase XPS 8700, basic configuration, will your screen work with it - the answer, yes, it will, it is covered by resolution. It would be plug and play. That is why I provided complete specifications previously.

What concerns me is the purpose - are you planning to play games with your setup, or just simple video watching and similar and regular office tasks?

For gaming GTX 745 is weak and stronger card will be required. XPS 8700 can support up to GTX 960 without power supply upgrade, which would be good for casual gaming. However, XPS BIOS must be version A10 or higher for GTX900 series support.

Did I answer your question, or I missed something?

Hi,

I'm really confused by this: 1 - NVIDIA G-SYNC requires a NVIDIA G-SYNC-ready monitor. Applicable for DisplayPort-enabled graphics cards.

I might have totally misunderstood, but it seems to me that the GTX_745 does not have a display port (right?) - but the OEM specifications list it as G-SYNC-ready (cf. links below)

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-745-oem/specifications

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/faq#q3

So, if the graphics card doesn't have a display port, and a display port is required for G-SYNC, how can it be G-SYNC-ready? Any thoughts/explanations would be appreciated!

Cheers
