Considering that he is likely going to be focused on gaming, as he mentioned he has a 770Ti (wait a sec does that card even exist?) any Haswell or Skylake I5 will perform better in games than the 8350.

The i5 would be better. In games that are not CPU intensive the FX-8350 may be able to provide similar FPS performance as a Core i5. However, the more CPU dependent the game is the more likely the Core i5 will provide better performance.
The FX-8350's performance is pretty much between 1st and 2nd generation Intel Core i5 CPUs.
