Why does my computer see a 3TB hard drive as 750GB?

I have a Windows XP (stop laughing) with an ECS C19A SLI motherboard. I just got a 3TB hard drive to replace my storage drive that just failed on me. When I connect my new hard drive, XP sees it as 750GB. Is my motherboard too old for an update? Help!

yes, the largest drive you can use is 2tb unless its a usb drive.

Update windows xp to the latest version with the service packs and see if that fixed it
