Windows update never finish searching for updates how to fix ?

I found threads from 2011 in other sites but no fix.

First i installed new clean windows 7 home premium on my laptop.
The laptop is hp pavilion dv60 8gb ram.
The windows version is: Windows 7 Home Premium MEA OEM Software.

First time i installed new clean windows and i checked for updates so it did download and installed then i checked again in the end there was some updates with service pack 1.
After this i got a message that if i want to check for update the system will download a new update software.

So it did download the new update software and now when i'm doing check for updates it's just checking and never finish. Is there any solution ?

After the install of SP1 there are about 250 more updates or so (depending if you have office installed .Net etc) and it usually takes a while to check for them.

how long have you let it gone for? I have had a PC (slower PC's that is) take 30-60 minutes before to check for updates on a fresh install of W7 SP1

Not sure what i did but now i see the updates about 196.
But now it's hanging on the downloading. "Downloading updates..." over an hour and didn't start the download yet.

What i did so far deleted the software distribution\download folder i also set the date and time on the laptop it wasn't the current time i updated it. So now i can see the updates 196 but it's not downloading.

What else can i try ?

Try this program here.

http://download.wsusoffline.net/

Download that and run the Updategenerator.exe program. select what update and what platform you want it to download.

Once it download (Will take a while) Open up the client folder (You should see some folders like W61-x64 etc for what ever version of windows you downloaded in here). run the updateinstaller and select if you want things like IE 11 installed etc. You can uncheck Verify Install packages.

Note: If you select Automatic reboot and recall it makes a temp admin account it reboots into to and then deletes it when it is done.

I use to use this to update some stuff but now i just slipstream everything install my install disk and only keep the SP's handy.
