Since my 2 year old Pc is pretty much dead, i think its time for a fresh start.

Looking to play and potentially stream/edit video of games such as elite dangerous, star citizen. And i like to play the big AAA games like farcry/just cause/mgs and of course fallout and starwars battlefront in the future.
1080p by 60+ fps at a minimum, higher res would be nice too

Ssd: samsung 840 pro 250gb (already own)

My questions are;
Should i look at updating my ssd?
Am i going overkill on any parts?

Solution
It's always preferable to use the best single card instead of two lower-powered ones. SLI is more complicated, uses way more power, and does not scale 1:1 - adding the second card doesn't give you a 100% performance boost, more like a 50% boost if that. And it doesn't work well in all games/programs.

The time when you use SLI (or Crossfire) is when you have an aging card and picking up a second one is half the price of buying a better one new, or when you are so far at the high end - using 4K, multiple monitors, etc. - that even the most powerful single cards would struggle. This is when money is no object and you're willing to spend $3,500 or $4,000 on a machine.

For 99% of everyday users - including most gamers - SLI, just like...

The motherboard is over the top considering the components you have.Ther are many cheaper variants available if you do not plan to use the Hero's marketing features.I would rather bu a cheaper motherboard and also get a ssd for my build.

That's a nice build ... I think the motherboard is a bit overkill and you could get one for half the price that does an excellent job at what you are looking for. I'd only go with that one if you are looking to push overclocking as high as possible (in which case I'd also get a stronger CPU fan) and run two cards in SLI. But even in that event, I think the amount of money you'd be spending in comparison to the performance you'd gain would be silly.

+1 on the SSD. I would not recommend using a single 3TB hard drive as your main/only drive.

Under certain circumstances yes but sli,like crossfire also suffers from not so ideal scaling(that is,you have two gpus but you don't get twice the performance,you might get microstuttering and of course more heat more noise and a bigger power draw.if you want futureproofing I would suggest that you dump the 2x 970ti(if you plan to sli them) and go for a single 980ti
