RAID 1 on Non OS drive causing failure to boot

I had a 1 TB HDD for a bit and decided i wanted to RAID 1 (mirror) my data. So I purchased the same model and size HDD and tried to set up a RAID 1. I have my OS and primary programs on a separate 240gb SSD, and my data from the HDD backed up on two separate hard drives.

I went into by bios and changed the SATA read to RAID instead of AHCI, and i setup my raid as well, making the two HDD's a RAID 1, wiped them, and it reads it as one now. However, when i rebooted it, it said Boot mgr not found.

When i press F12 and specifically pick my SSD as a boot, it starts the windows logo, but then flashes a blue screen and restarts. This is all fixed if i change my SATA back to AHCI, and my computer boots up once more, however none of the hard drives are found (unless i turn off the raid).

Going into windows repair and trying to repair or restore from an earlier point doesnt work either.

I've also tried to use the partition boot wizard to see if there was anything wrong with the hard drives reading, but that didnt work either, it registers my SSD as the primary drive, and the HDD's as logical drives (creating partitions on them didn't do anything either).

Does anyone know what could be up with this setup? From all my research creating a raid seperate from the OS should be possible and the steps i followed are like in any of the tutorials or articles i read for hardware raid setup via motherboard.

Hey there, Neo.

Sounds like you've done everything right. When you've installed Windows on your SSD, did you do it with all other drives disconnected during the installation process? Sometimes that could be one of the issues. Other than that I'd recommend that you update the chipset drivers, your BIOS and the firmware of the SSD if you have updates available. After that, try setting the RAID configuration again. If you are still unable to boot from the SSD when you've set the controller to RAID, I'd suggest that you get in touch with the mobo manufacturer's customer support and ask for assistance.

Hope that helps.
