Benefits of possibly Upgrading my E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU to a Q6600

Depends on the game. If the game uses more than 2 threads and the gpu is fast enough a quad core should increase performance.

Q6600 or Q8400 or Q9400, same starting point. Remember Q6600 is maybe known for good OC but those newer versions are too!
Q6600 has lower stock speed, is an older family and will be a bit warmer then newer Q8xxx/Q9xxx.
Another thing is that E8400 has base clock of 3.0 Ghz so you certainly need some OC on those quads to get similar performance in 1-2 threaded tasks.
I've had E8400 and swapped it as soon as Q8400 arrived back in the days, even at lower clocks those additional cores are worth without any doubt.
I'm still using my Q8400 machine from time to time, CPU OC'ed to 3.2 running well most of the current games and only struggling with some poor console ports.
Those "only 2 more cores" is 100% more core count.... how is that "only"?
As said some games do benefit only from 2 cores and i do know that can be a bi... sometimes but at the end of the day i would never in my life get back to lower core count, once you feel them others can say whatever they want.
