My computer has a really slow boot time with windows 8.1, from pressing the on button on my pc it normally takes about 5 minutes for the computer to become usable as the disk usage sits at 100% for that time.

I have disabled all but the vital Microsoft services at start up, disabled superfetch, background intelligent transfer & windows search as-well as completely removing the page file on the boot drive to no avail. I know its not the boot drive as crystal disk shows the drive is in good shape, and only yesterday I used Sea Tools to scan for/ fix any bad sectors on the drive, also resulting in very little performance difference.

Any advice/ tips on potentially anything else i could try would be greatly appreciated as I have had this problem ever since upgrading from 7 to 8.1 and its such a pain having to ride out the waiting time every time I turn on the PC.

Microsoft built into the Windows 8.1 Task Manager a fantastically easy way to check your Startup programs. Hit Control-Alt+Delete on your keyboard and then on the next screen select Task Manager with your mouse.

Now you’ll be kicked back to the desktop. Inside the Task Manager window click on the Startup tab. Next you’ll see a list of programs that turn on when you boot up your desktop.

What you want to focus on is the Startup impact column and those with a rating of “High.” These are the programs you’ll want to consider disabling at startup.

Keep in mind that any programs you disable have to be manually started later on if you want to use them. An antivirus program will inevitably have a high rating, but it would be unwise to...

Have you scanned the pc for viruses? If not do that but in safe mode and if your problem persists you should format your pc.

P.S Scan with malwarebytes the first time and the second time with your antivirus to be 100% sure.

You should also consider updating your drivers.

If you boot into safe mode and look at your Device Manager, look for hardware you once had installed but no longer use. Delete those items. Any item there is still being searched for on startup so that can slow you down.
