To understand my situation I'll explain a bit

So from my previous setup

Dell optiplex 755 customized build
MOBO : BTX proprietary mobo
PSU : 280w
CPU : Core 2 Quad Q6600
GPU : Asus GTX 750 2GB GDDR5 non ti
RAM : 6GB DDR2 only

This was working fine but I wanted to upgrade the mobo to MSI(ex NEC) MS-7594 (Intel G45/43 chipset), this basically means upgrading the casing as well

so I tried to build this
MOBO : preused MSI ( ex NEC, it was from some NEC commercial PC) MS-7594
Casing : Powerlogic Futura XV110
PSU : 450w
CPU : (same)Core 2 Quad Q6600
GPU : (same)Asus GTX 750 2gbgddr5 non ti
RAM : 4GB DDR3 dual channel
BIOS : AMI ver 2.59

the problem is after I switched on power... it just continuously beeps with no display.
So I tried eraser technique for RAM because many said thats the problem but its still the same,
I tried removing the GPU and so straight VGA from integrated graphics still same,

I never thought its the Processor but after changing the Processor to Core 2 Duo E4500(luckily i have this stock dell processor) it just boots and everything works , including the RAM and the GTX 750 also works...
is it incompatible? but I thought G45/43 supported C2Q and why does it continuously beep ,shouldn't that mean its the RAM fault?

I actually tried to boot my old system with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor, its working, so its not faulty

or is there some bios settings/update thats preventing me to use the Q6600? is this it?

Solution
I think I just found the answer - why it is not working

This is link to very technical manual for MS-7594 http://elektrotanya.com/msi_ms-7594_rev_0a_sch.pdf/download.html you don't need to download it (I did and the rest of info is not useful)

Look at the example page:

CPU:

Intel Yorkfield, Wolfdale,
Conroe, Conroe-1M, Conroe-L - 65W CPU
(FSB1333/1066/800)

It has support only for 65 watt CPU.

Intel Core2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20GHz is 65 watt

Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz is 105 watt

So your mobo is not giving enough juice to CPU.

Did I miss something?

I think so too :/ . I actually found a guy on youtube who managed to upgrade his NEC MJ18XA(MS 7594 mobo) from a E6550 to a Q8200 which is a quadcore but still isn't a Q6600. I asked him/her if he/she did any updates to the BIOS, still waiting for reply.

I'm currently hunting for BIOS update from nec and some japanese sites but it looks like its going nowhere. I can't even confirm for sure that the NEC MJ18XA uses MS 7594 let alone its variant. I'm also wondering how much does google index japanese sites as well

I tried to make an "updated BIOS", I mean modding BIOS rom. It turns out you are right, the CPU microcodes it have is very limited, it supports E4500,E8200, a couple of Q8200 variant and some other proc thats not Q6600.

So I tried "hacking" by adding the Q6600 microcode to the bios rom and flashing it but it still doesnt support the Q6600, but I suspect its because I took the microcodes from a different Chipset

youll have to check the chipset of the mobo. For a q6600 youll need a chipset thatll support 1066MHz. To OC youll need one of the better chipsets like P35/45, x38 etc

http://processormatch.intel.com/MotherBoards/CompatibleBoards?componentName=Q6600

According to that, you shouldn't be having a problem, other than maybe the hacked bios. According to MSI, with 7592vS0.zip bios, you should be good to go. A G41/43/45 chipset is way too new (for lga 775) for NEC not to have one listed in a whitelist as that cpu was used on older 965 boards.

I was actually just investigating that too, I really thought it was that too since I've double checked whether I didn't add the correct microcode but its all there. After examining all the cpu in the whitelist, the maximum possible TDP I could come up with was 95 Watt, like you said the official intel page says Q6600 uses 105 Watt. I guess this is a nogo for me and unless I can patch the Max TDP too XD

(I cant use the img tag) http://i.imgur.com/5xYgYOv.jpg

The notepad list below might not be correct, I was too lazy to check the Steppings. Is there a risk to break the Q6600? I dont care about the motherboard, Im thinking of just using the old setup or buying another (well researched) mobo this time...

any guides on how to do the tape mod on undervolting?

I missed this part. Is it possible or workable for AMD based processors, as I really want to know what my Inspiron 570 BIOS has in mind..... Is there a way to identify AMD processors by Microcode ID or CPUID, do you know?

Regarding undervolt Q6600, looking into my archives.... need time.

I think it depends on what kind of BIOS you have, I've just dive in myself too in BIOS modding so I dont know much. You mean you want to mod your Dell BIOS too? I think its also using AMI BIOS, so you'll need the MMTool to read or modify BIOS rom/dumps .
Just identify the processor through Device Manager/Speccy/CpuZ from there you can refer to cpu-world.com for its CPUID and other stuff.

ah it's okay... Thanks for trying anyway.... I went ahead and bought myself a another mobo although lacking the DDR3 ram support, its atleast a "legit" MSI motherboard (MSI P35 NEO3) and compatible with Q6600 or better. I'm not going to overclock it but knowing that some people have used it for gaming and OC gives me peace of mind in stock gaming.

Glad to hear such a good resolution of that issue.

I see, From the current temps, I really do think I need a good heatsink too first

Lol, yeah, the stock coolers on all the lga775 units were dismal at best, back then, it seems if it wasn't loud, it wasn't working hard enough. That was a time before you had an enthusiast class as such and OC was not nearly as mainstream as it is now. Back then, speed came from optimizing your ram, keeping low running percentage to keep usage out of the pagefile and coolers like a nh-d14 were just a dream, not a reality.

Can you help me please. I see this is very an old thread but hoping you could help me.I just bought an old pc with NEC MS-7594MA motherboard with Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz. Like the problem you had, can't seem to find 4 core cpu for this motherboard.

Thank you.
