Hello,

My computer freezes once a day. It's a Toshiba Laptop, it's pretty old and runs Windows 7.

Model number is Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5895. It usually freezes on startup.

Sometimes when it restarts from freeze, it gives me some error codes and I was wondering if someone understood these and could tell me if this problem is fixable.

So when it restarts I get a window that says, "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown." Below is what it displays:

I would check the RAM. Take it out and reseat it. Or if you have two sticks, take one out and try to boot with one, and see if problem persists. If it does try it with just the other one.

  • Failing hard drives can cause freezing.
    Clogged fans can cause freezing.
    Overheating can cause freezing

Is the computer getting hot before it freezes throughout the day?

Taking out the CPU and reapplying the thermal paste can take care of this issue as well. This would only be necessary if it was dried up, or if it was overflowing onto the chip from under the heat sink. This is quite frequently the problem in laptops over 2 years old, as the thermal paste was either carelessly applied (too much), or it has dried up and is no longer transferring the heat.
