mobo: msi - ms-7752

contrary to this article: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/02/understanding-m-2-the-interface-that-will-speed-up-your-next-ssd/ --- I've been reading that an adapter card is needed for older mobos. Depending on which m.2 ssd I choose, is it possible to directly connect the m.2 drive into a 4xPCIe 2.0 slot?

"Each key exposes a different set of interfaces to each card—M.2 can connect directly to the PCI Express bus"

Hopefully the answer is yes, but I have a feeling this article led me down the wrong line of thought.

That is for motherboard that have a m.2 slot. Your don't

From the article
"above is a picture of two M.2 slots on the motherboard of an HP Stream Mini."

Just get a 2.5" ssd.
NOT sure if you'll be able to use it as a boot or OS drive, but if you're asking if an M.2 SSD will plug directly into a PCI slot, nope - going to need an expansion card like the addonics http://www.addonics.com/products/adm2px4.php

they run $24 to $28 on amazon shipped - be careful, the expansion cards that are selling for $50-60 with a heatsink plate or cover, that heatsink is worthless - because of the varying thickness of different M.2 SSDs, the mfgr left a considerable gap under the heatsink - google for it - a number of the reviews of the heatsink expansion cards complain about it
