Apologies if this is not the right forum.

After recently getting a new router and modem, I've found that my Xbox 360's connection to Xbox live is extremely unreliable. Most of the time it can't connect at all, and sometimes it's far too laggy to be of any use. On very rare occasion, it works perfectly.

I have tried absolutely everything for over a week. In the connection test, it seems to get 4 bars on the router consistently. That is, it almost always connects to the network, but fails the "Internet" stage of the test, which leads me to believe the issue is related to the modem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've tried hooking up to the router directly, which didn't help. I'd have done the same with the modem, but there are no free ports and I can't unplug anything. Everything else seems to be working fine.

I've gone into the router to monitor bandwidth while attempting to use the Xbox, and despite having many devices connected, we were nowhere near the limit, so it shouldn't be that. Just to be sure, I'll try to connect tonight while everyone is asleep to see if it makes a difference.

100% must be the rooter/modem then. Past buying a 3rd party rooter (assume your using the ISP stock one) which is far from ideal and some ISP's are funny about I have to bow to someone more knowledge. Sorry to get your hopes up!
